Mpumalanga Legislature’s Speaker’s Legacy Project changes family’s lives

The speaker donated much-needed groceries, furniture and appliances to the family that lost their house in a fire.

The deputy speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Jeaneth Thabethe, led the Speaker’s Legacy Project with the aim of changing the lives of the Sedibe family for the better.

The family’s story of their house that was burnt down, touched the speaker, Makhosazane Masilela, and encouraged her to lend a helping hand to them.

Groceries, furniture and appliances were donated to the family on September 27 as part of the Social Cohesion and Nation-building Programme.
Speaking during the official handover, Thabethe outlined what the Office of the Speaker had aimed to achieve with the Legacy Project.

She encouraged the communities to always assist one another, more especially those who are disadvantaged.
“We need to teach our young people well and instil the culture of helping and taking care of one another to make our communities a better place,” said Thabethe.
The Sedibe family could not contain their joy and appreciation of the goodwill gesture displayed by the provincial legislature.
