Stolen vehicle recovered five years later in Standerton

A Toyota Etios reported stolen five years ago was found in Meyerville. The possible suspect escaped after spotting approaching SAPS officers.

An operation in Standerton driven by Crime Intelligence led to the recovery of a white Toyota Etios, valued at about R85 000, which had been reported stolen five years ago.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the police’s Crime Intelligence Unit had gathered information and employed the services of the Standerton K9 Unit to conduct the operation.

“Investigations led the two disciplines to a house in Meyerville in Standerton, where the vehicle was spotted. Upon arrival, the possible suspect ran away, evading arrest. Investigations into the vehicle without a registration number were conducted, and it was positively identified as the vehicle stolen in Centurion, Pretoria, in May 2018,” he said.

“The vehicle was confiscated and taken to the Standerton SAPS. Currently, the police are still on the lookout for the suspect and hope to bring him to book soon.”

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, applauded the members and called on community members to alert the police about any suspicious criminal activities.
“The suspect might have evaded arrest for now, but with all the resources we have at our disposal, surely they will be traced and arrested without delay,” she said.
