Stray bullet hits sleeping single mom in Entokozweni

The woman was injured by a stray bullet that entered through her roof.

Some community members are enraged by the ongoing illegal discharging of firearms at night, that has seemingly been on the increase in the Nsikazi area.

This uproar follows a recent incident in which a woman was wounded by a stray bullet that entered through the roof of her bedroom and hit her in the right thigh.
Community members said the issue of illegal discharges of firearms has been a serious challenge for a while.

According to them, some people open fire at night for fun. They have urged the police to intervene before the situation is exacerbated.
The victim of this incident, Celiwe Shiba, a 36-year-old, single mother of two, said she is still traumatised by the ordeal.

“She said she was in bed sleeping on Friday night, when she suddenly felt an unbearable pain in her thigh and screamed out.”

Shiba said she went into shock, as she could not determine what was happening.
“It happened at about 23:30. I immediately called a friend from church since I was at home alone. Before I knew it, my church members were there to assist me.

They took me to the local clinic. On arrival, we discovered that my injury was caused by a bullet.

The nurses told me they could not help me because they did not know how deep the wound was, so I had to go to Rob Ferreira Hospital that same night,” said Shiba.

She was in hospital for a day and is currently recovering at home.
She said the incident has cost her financially and emotionally.

“It robbed my children of their bread on the table, because I am self-employed and I cannot attend to some of my clients at my salon.

“I am no longer able to stand for a long period. ”

“The medication I am using makes me drowsy at times, so I have to be in bed a lot, and so I am losing clients.”

Shiba said she was glad her children were away visiting some relatives that particular night.
“The situation could have been worse if the bullet hit one of my children. I keep imagining how they would have not been able to handle this pain.”
