Mpumalanga MEC celebrates International Day of Families in Nkomazi

The MEC for social development, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, said the aim of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of and promote the well-being of families.

The Mpumalanga MEC for social development, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, led the International Day of Families celebration at Boschfontein Community Hall in Nkomazi on Tuesday May 30.

The day is celebrated annually on May 15, as adopted by the United Nations, to promote the important role families play in our lives, while also reflecting on the challenges modern families face.

The theme for this year was the demographic trends and their impact on families.
“We must all remember that families are the building blocks of society and they play a crucial role in shaping the future of our communities. A child is not only raised by a family on its own, but also by a community,” said Ntshalintshali.

She said that it is not too late for people to return to their values and the culture they have lost.
‘Be like the neighbour that you would like to have,” she said.
