No crime incidents at the Lebombo Border so far
While traffic continues to surge, law enforcement officials have increased visibility and are ensuring that drivers adhere to the rules.

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, says there have been no crime incidents reported on the N4 towards the Lebombo Border Post so far. Manamela said this during the Operation Safer Festive Season at the border post on Friday December 22.

Although car and truck traffic continues to pile up ahead of the long weekend, Manamela says they are working tirelessly around the clock to ensure that there’s no traffic backlog.
“All the law enforcement agencies are here to ensure that motorists comply with the rules and there are no crime incidents. We have ensured that we separate the truck traffic from the car traffic so we can manage them well,” she said.
Smaller vehicles going to Mozambique have since been clearing their paperwork at Kilometre 7 and are then escorted to the border by SAPS motorbikes. According to Manamela, this strategy is working very well.

“We get incidents where some of the cars on the N4 want to jump on the convoy that comes from Kilometre 7, but our officers are working hard to restore order and ensure that everyone adheres to the rules. We would also like to urge drivers to be patient with one another and drive carefully. We are on top of the situation in trying to ensure that the traffic keeps flowing throughout,” she added.
One Mozambican national was arrested for drunk driving during the operation.
