Malalane twins to go their separate ways for first time after matric
One of the twins will head to university, while the other has decided to take a gap year to focus on cricket.
Finishing matric at Beacon College for the Patel twins means going their separate ways for the first time since birth.
These 17-year-olds say they are happy to have made it through high school, but have mixed emotions about going to different universities.
Abdullah plans to take a gap year to focus on his passion for cricket, while Muhammed wants to pursue a career in finance at one of the universities at which he was accepted.

“It has been some amazing years for my twin and I. He has always beaten me in terms of performance, but today I performed better than him. I am either going to the University of Mpumalanga or the University of Johannesburg to do a course in commerce. I am a cricket player as well, but only at a club level,” said Muhammed.
Abdullah, on the other hand, says he is planning to pursue a career in law. “I am very proud of myself and happy with my marks, especially in mathematics. I will apply at the University of Cape Town this year for next year’s enrolment, because I am taking a gap year to focus on sports. I play cricket on provincial level and I have so much to look forward to.

“While this means being apart from my brother for a long time for the first time since birth, I am glad that we have passed and we will both be pursuing what we love,” said Abdullah.
