MEC for health welcomes Phelophepa Train to Mbombela

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, encouraged the community to visit the train and utilise its services while it is in the area.

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, welcomed the Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train to the City of Mbombela on Sunday May 5. Its services to the community commenced on Monday May 6.

Manzini welcomed the train’s management and acknowledge their commitment to servicing the people. She encouraged and recommended everyone to visit the train and utilise the services at their disposal.

The coaches containing health clinics will start operating until Friday May 17.

Screenings for dental services, an eye clinic (service does not include operations or bifocals), tests for diabetes and cancer (with Pap smears for women and prostate checks for men), general healthcare screening and counselling are provided.

The screenings include comprehensive programmes of education.

The services are run from Monday to Friday from 07:30 until 16:00. The train does not operate on weekends.

According to Sithembiso Shabangu, a staff member of the Transnet-Phelophepa Train, community members should remember to get to the train early in the morning.

“The services are provided on a first come first served basis. We have a specific number of patients who will be assisted per day. We do this so that we will be able to provide quality services to them,” he said.

Minors should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Remember your ID, birth certificate or passport. It costs R5 for medication (such as eye drops), R10 for dental services (cleaning, extraction and fillings), and for the optometrist, R30 for a pair of glasses.
