Mbombela Open boasts success and showcases local tennis development

The open featured local celebrity matches and professional tennis players from across the country and Africa.

Is there anything that Dumisani Simelane, known as DJ Madumane, can’t do? He is a top radio DJ, and now he has added another feather in his already impressive cap – tennis player.

He possesses all the qualities of a good tennis player, agility and fast hands, which all came to the fore at the Mbombela Open Celebrity Match, featuring industry captains and tennis administrators, at the Nelspruit Tennis Club on Sunday May 5.

DJ Madumane displayed amazing basic skills of the sport, much to the delight of the sizeable crowd, including radio presenter Mancane Malope, and SABC news editor, Bobo Lukhele, who had gathered to watch him and other celebrities on the court.

This annual sporting event, hosted for the first time over the past weekend, proved to be nothing but a runaway success.

“When he decides to hang up his headphones, he has a future in the masters circuit league,” quipped Mbombela Open tournament director, Sabelo Mathebula, who got DJ Madumane and Mkhabela ready for the match.
