Mpumalanga MEC for public works prioritises infrastructure projects

The Mkhondo Boarding School, the Fresh Produce Market and Parliamentary Village are some of the included infrastructures projects.

The new MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, has prioritised expediting progress on key infrastructure projects undertaken by his department.

He said some of these infrastructure projects include the Mkhondo Boarding School, the Fresh Produce Market and the Parliamentary Village.

He said he has already met with his senior management team, by which he was briefed about the department, and promised to work with speed to accelerate service delivery.

Thomo said a number of dilapidated roads leading to tourist attractions in the province will be given attention. “We fully understand that tourism plays a major role in our economy and, therefore, it is our duty as government to ensure that we play our part by fixing the roads leading to major tourism destinations in the province so that tourists can keep on coming,” said Thomo.

As for the new projects, he said they will soon introduce a contractor and conduct a site visit at the rehabilitation project of phase 3 of 12, the 1km stretch coal-haul road P182(R542) between Van Dyksdrift and Hendrina.

“We will also conduct a sod-turning ceremony in the Ehlanzeni District, where we will be upgrading a 9km road, the D3954 and D3958 between Casteel and Zoeknog, in Bushbuckridge. We will also conduct a sod-turning event for the rehabilitation of a 6.83km stretch of the D1723 to Luphisi in the City of Mbombela,” he highlighted.
