MEC acknowledges Mpumalanga teacher for going the extra mile on viral video

The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, invited her as a special guest and acknowledged her for going the extra mile with her learners.

A Grade Three teacher of Phuthumani Primary School in KwaMhlanga, Nkangala, was lauded by the MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, on September 27 for her outstanding passion in teaching.

Nontobeko Amanda Mahlangu released a video that had gone viral, on which she can be seen educating learners how to stay clean during their monthly cycle and how to use a sanitary towel.

This video got a lot of people talking. Some single fathers expressed their appreciation to her for these lessons, and said the clip altered the thinking of many people. According to the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Mahlangu displayed her passion for teaching, going the extra mile to embrace cleanliness and hygiene, and to inculcate a culture of responsibility among our young girls.

Dlamini said Mahlangu had been invited as her special guest during the 2024 Cleanest School Awards Ceremony at Badplaas Aventura.

“If anything, our drive should be to ensure that cleanliness and neatness become second nature to our children,” said Dlamini. Mahlangu also received a token of appreciation from Telkom.
