Man accused of raping his own children remains behind bars in Tonga
A burst pipe in the court building resulted in bail application proceedings being postponed.
The bail application of a 41-year-old man accused of raping his three children was postponed due to a burst pipe in the Tonga District Court building today, Tuesday, November 12.
The suspect was still making his way to Tonga from prison, when his case was moved to Thursday, November 14, in absentia.
He was arrested on October 19 for allegedly raping his two minor daughters. The charges were later increased to three counts of rape after the police found he had allegedly raped his elder daughter, too.
Some ANC members were seen chanting “Akayazi ayfunayo!” outside court, while some attended the hearing inside. An ANC Ehlanzeni Regional Executive Council (REC) member, Thandeka Dlamini-Makamo, said they will continue to support justice in this and any other related cases.
“We understand that some cases are beyond our control as human beings, such as the burst pipe that occurred today and as a result the case could not proceed. We will, however, continue to support the family and urge the State to not grant bail to this man,” she said.

Dlamini-Makamo said they were shocked to find out there are a number of other cases similar to this one, and said they would support all the victims and their families.
“We believe that justice will prevail in all these cases. We will ensure that we attend all the appearances as the cases proceed.”
