Middelburg court sentences man to 15 years for stabbing woman to death
The Middelburg Regional Court sentenced Bongani Motha to 15 years behind bars. He was arrested in Randburg in 2022.
Bongani Motha, a 24-year-old man, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbing a 43-year-old woman before stabbing her to death in Belfast.
He was sentenced by the Middelburg Regional Court on Wednesday, November 5.
According to a provincial police spokesperson, Captain Magonseni Nkosi, Motha was arrested at his hiding place in Randburg, Gauteng, on July 21, 2022, where he had been staying since the day of the incident.
“According to our investigation, the suspect robbed the victim in broad daylight on Christmas Day, 2021. The robbery turned fatal as the victim allegedly called the suspect by his name. The victim’s reaction fuelled Motha’s aggression, who then resorted to stabbing her. The victim was certified dead by medical personnel on the scene,” said Nkosi.
