ANC Mpumalanga calls on former comrades to return

The Mpumalanga ANC’s provincial chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu, said the party is not complete without Michael ‘Ngrayi’ Ngwenya, Musa Mkhatshwa and many other former members.

Addressing some party members and the Nkomazi community during his first-100-days-report-back session in Tonga on October 31, Ndlovu challenged Ehlanzeni’s regional chairperson, Jackie Macie, to double his efforts to bring these former members and leaders back to the ANC.

Macie is hailed for his Operation Buyel’ Ekhaya, which has seen thousands of party members who had defected to other political organisations for various reasons rejoining the ANC. Macie himself coined the name of this programme. Initially targeting Ehlanzeni, where he leads the organisation, after seeing its impact, he decided to turn it into a provincial programme, which will be driven by Ndlovu and the party’s secretary, Muzi Chirwa.

“Comrade Jackie’s Buyel’ Ekhaya programme is proving to be effective, but it cannot be complete until we have brought back all our former comrades, such as Ngrayi Ngwenya and many others,” said Ndlovu.

Since taking over as the provincial chairperson of the organisation, Ndlovu has been working behind the scenes to reinstil unity and create a healthy relationship with their alliance partners, Cosatu, SACP and Sanco.

To cement their relations, Ndlovu included the SACP’s Bonakele Majuba and Cosatu’s Fidel Mlombo, who was later replaced with Leah Mabuza as per the ANC National Executive Committee’s directive to have a 60/40 gender representation in the cabinet.
