Elderly Casteel woman derives her joy from toys – donations welcome

Her family celebrated Phori’s 60th birthday on December 24.

The family of an elderly woman living with mental disability are asking for donations of toys.

According to her family, at the age of 60, Morongwa Phori is about 1m tall, the average height of a seven- or eight-year-old. They said playing with toys helps her relax, brings her joy and stimulates her mind.

Her caretaker, her sister, Sarah, described her as a lover of life and of people, especially children. “She gets along very well with children and has child-like characteristics such as playing with toys. She is always smiling and is a joy to be around. We grew up, five siblings, but our parents have passed on as well as our other three siblings. She is my younger sister and I have been taking care of her as long as I can remember,” she said.

“We are grateful to still have her in our lives and for her long life and health. My sister is independent; she refuses to be treated like a child,” said Sarah.
