UPDATE | Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court remands two more suspects in Putco bus burning in custody
The two men will make their next appearance in the Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court on February 13, alongside another two suspects that had been arrested earlier this month in connection with the same crime.
The Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court remanded two suspects, Mduduzi Masango (31) and Steven Mthombeni (27), who were arrested in connection with the torching of 51 Putco buses in KwaNdebele in January in custody today, February 12.
They were arrested in Siyabuswa yesterday, February 11.
Their next court appearance has been set for tomorrow, February 13, for possible bail application. They are facing charges of malicious damage to property.
Masango and Mthombeni have been arrested in addition to the first two suspects, Isaac Mabena (29) and Luthando Trevor Skosana (37), who were arrested on January 28, just a day after the buses were torched.

Mabena and Skosana appeared in Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court on February 5 and their case was postponed to tomorrow when they are expected to make a formal bail application.
A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said: “The arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident that occurred on January 27. The suspects are believed to have been involved in the co-ordinated attack on the bus fleet, causing significant damage to the vehicles and posing a threat to public safety.”
