KaBokweni artist optimistic about successful music career

A musician is working on an album with the hope to cement himself in the local music industry.

Growing up in a musical household with a father who had a band, a 26-year-old was exposed to music from a young age. Phumlani Mbuyane is an up-and-coming DJ and producer making his entry into the Nsikazi music industry.

Mbuyane said he recognised his love of music when he watched his father’s band perform.

“Music was a norm at home. Although my father’s band did not become famous, it pushed me to follow my dreams and strive for my own success in music,” he said.

He has always seen himself as a versatile artist, starting out his career as a rapper and deep-house music producer in 2013. Mbuyane then moved on to gqom music and is now manoeuvering into amapiano, inspired by well-known amapiano artist and producer, Kabza de Small.

Mbuyane said amapiano is an opportunity to make his mark in the industry. In 2020, he released a song called “Ilockdown iyasbulala” featuring local artists, which had over 8 000 downloads shortly after its release. According to him, his first album also received some great feedback on online streaming platforms.

“It is a proud moment for me because it motivated me to not give up, but work hard. I believe that what is mine will find me.” Mbuyane said he is currently working on his album called Foreign Sounds 1, featuring local artist Natasha MD.
