Mpumalanga departments address school violence in Nkomazi

Pupils were informed about the consequences of engaging in violent behaviour.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) took a proactive approach in promoting safety precautions in schools through a programme called School Safety.

The department visited Ligebhuta Secondary School on Thursday, May 29, as part of its broader efforts to educate pupils about the importance of maintaining a safe and crime-free environment.

By engaging with the learners and educators, the DCSSL hopes to build a safer and more supportive learning environment that benefits all stakeholders.

Their aim is to ensure that schools are safe havens where learners can focus on their studies without fear of violence or intimidation.

The programme was supported by various institutions, such as the Department of Social Development, the Department of Education, the SAPS, and government communications and information systems with the purpose of addressing the issues affecting the learners. These include gangsterism, substance abuse, bullying and violence.

The pupils were informed about the dangers of carrying weapons at school and the consequences of engaging in violent behaviours such as fighting.
