Lowveld Walkers honour the Class of 1976

The day is commemorated every year on June 16 through various activities.

As a way to honour the Class of 1976, the Lowveld Walkers held a Youth Day walk on Saturday, June 14. The walkers started at Casterbridge, White River, to the Kiepersol Road on the R40 and back, with four distance options: 5km, 10km, 15km and 21km. The aim of this walk was to honour of the youth of 1976.

Lowveld Walkers’ founder, Joseph Mashaba, said this day serves as a reminder of the youth’s courage and sacrifice in the struggle for freedom and equality.

“We want the youth to know their history. We want them to understand why we celebrate the date and its impact,” Mashaba said.
