Jackie Macie champions Batho Pele in Mbombela oversight visit

MEC Jackie Macie engaged with customers to hear their experiences first-hand with the quality service delivery.

The Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, conducted an oversight visit at the vehicle licensing and testing centre in Mbombela on Friday, June 27. Macie assessed whether services are being delivered fairly in line with the Freedom Charter’s enduring principles.

“Our democratic government upholds the Batho Pele (people first) principles as the foundational standard for all public service centres, including licensing and testing facilities,” he said.

Batho Pele principles is a South African initiative that focuses on transforming public service delivered by putting citizen’s needs and concerns first.

Macie also engaged directly with customers in the queues to hear their experiences firsthand. “The majority of community members expressed satisfaction with the quality and efficiency of the services rendered,” Macie said.

As a commemoration of the Freedom Charter’s 70th anniversary, such site visits serve not only as accountability measures to reinforce adherence to the Batho Pele principles, but also as a vital mechanism for driving continuous improvement in the public sector’s service delivery.
