Bushbuckridge and Hazyview initiation schools praised for smooth season

Currently all the initiates are healthy and doing fine in the initiation schools around the Bushbuckridge and Hazyview area.

The initiation season in the Hazyview and Bushbuckridge regions is progressing well, with no major incidents reported and all schools operating under close supervision.

According to Kgoshi Mathupa Mokoena, the president of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa), initiates in both areas remain in good health, and the process is being carefully monitored.

“These schools continue to do well. People are always encouraged to celebrate peacefully, and ingoma holders are reminded to follow the rules and regulations,” Mokoena said.

More than 10 000 people are expected to attend the upcoming ingoma celebrations – the traditional graduation ceremony for initiates.

The smooth running of the schools once again reinforces Hazyview and Bushbuckridge’s reputation as leading examples in the responsible conduct of this cultural practice.

Contralesa has stressed the importance of maintaining peace and discipline throughout the season, highlighting the role of traditional leaders in preserving and protecting these rites of passage.
