Secunda Regional Court sentences rapist to life for raping 8-year-old girl

The court further declared the man unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

A 27-year-old man, convicted of raping a child, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Secunda Regional Court on Tuesday, July 15.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the court heard how the tragic details of an eight-year-old girl’s ordeal came to light on May 2, 2022.

“The victim’s parents had been in their bedroom watching television. The mother went to the kitchen to prepare food and was surprised to find the door closed – something unusual for that time of day. She became concerned and opened the door to investigate,” said Ndubane.

According to her, she found the accused inside the room and her daughter was half-naked.“Upon finding the man in her room, the mother screamed, and the child’s father rushed in to see what was happening,” Ndubane said.

The girl reportedly told her parents that she had been raped on four occasions, and that the accused had told her it was their ‘secret little game’ and no one should know about it.
