IN PHOTOS| Gates of Hope Primary hosts career expo to inspire future professionals

Learners explored a wide range of professions at a lively career expo.

The hallways At Gates of Hope Primary School in Sand River were recently buzzing with pint-sized professionals. From August 5 to 7, the school hosted a vibrant career exhibition, giving its learners a glimpse into the diverse world of work.

The initiative, which aimed to inspire and empower the young learners by introducing them to various career paths, culminated in a dress-up day where the learners came to school as the professionals they aspire to be.

The classrooms were filled with miniature firefighters, police officers, doctors and fashion designers, each with a gleam in their eye and a dream in their heart.

According to the event organiser, Nolwazi Shiba, the school believes that early exposure to various careers can significantly impact a child’s future. “We want to show them what’s out there so they can start thinking about their goals and how to achieve them,” she said.

Shiba added that this kind of early introduction helps to motivate learners to focus on their studies and understand the direct link between education and their future professions.

The event featured a wide range of professionals, including park rangers, conservationists, tour guides, doctors, firefighters, police and traffic officers and nurses, who shared their experiences and offered valuable advice.

They spoke to the learners about the educational requirements and the subjects they would need to study to succeed in their chosen fields.

The professionals also provided insights into the daily life of their careers, making the abstract concept of a job more tangible and exciting for the young audience.

The Gates of Hope career exhibition was a resounding success, igniting curiosity and planting the seeds of ambition in the hearts of its learners.

By connecting the learners’ present studies to their future aspirations, the school is not only educating them, but also helping them build the foundation for a bright and purposeful future.
