eMalahleni Magistrate’s court sentences man to 15 years for fraud and cyber crime
The 32-year-old was arrested for using a cloned fleet card to purchase fuel.
Dumisane Maluleka received a 15-year sentence after he was convicted of cloning fleet cards. The 32-year-old was arrested twice in a space of two months for the same offence, in May and July 2023,.
According to Hawks’ spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, after being charged with using a cloned fleet card to purchase fuel, and his subsequent release on bail on May 31, 2023, Maluleka again used the counterfeit card to purchase fuel. He was arrested again by Ogies SAPS detectives.

“On July 19, 2023, Maluleka was remanded in custody for bail application. The case docket was referred to the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further handling,” said Nkosi. The Hawks successfully opposed all three of Maluleka’s bail applications.

“Maluleka remained in custody until the eMalahleni Magistrate’s court handed down the judgment on Monday, August 25. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for each of the two fraud charges, and two and three years’ imprisonment for each of the cyber crime charges. The court ruled that one of the five-year sentences will be served concurrently with one three-year sentence,” he said.
Maluleka is expected to serve 12 years behind bars.
