Mpumalanga student part of winning team at G20 Hackathon

The University of Mpumalanga honoured one of its students for her impact on the tourism sector and the inspiration she provides to her peers.

A third-year student of the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), Innocentia Bongiwe Nkosi, is part of the team, The Catalysts, that recently won the G20 Tourism Hackathon Challenge hosted by the National Department of Tourism.

Nkosi is studying hospitality management.Her team’s groundbreaking concept, the Hologram Hub, secured first place and a prize of R175 000.

The innovative solution creates a digital platform for rural communities to tell their own stories, preserve heritage and attract tourists while promoting sustainable, people-centred tourism.

According to UMP spokesperson Tlangelani Ubisi, Nkosi’s outstanding contribution not only showcased her talent on a national stage, but also positioned the university as a hub of innovation in the tourism and hospitality sector.
“We are immensely proud of her achievement and the inspiration she brings to her peers and the UMP community.”
