Matsulu Little Angel Primary School entrepreneurs cash in at market day
These future entrepreneurs were given capital and tasked to buy stock, sell it to the school and make a profit.
It was a day filled with learning while having fun during the entrepreneurship day at Matsulu Little Angel Primary School on Friday, September 5.
A dynamic celebration of innovation, teamwork and practical learning was fully led by the Grade Seven learners.
The market day is held every year in September, aimed at introducing the learners to real-world business principles through group-based ventures.

Each team received a minimum capital loan of R300 to R500 from their parents to purchase stock, transforming the school into a vibrant marketplace.

The principal, Thokozani Shabalala, said in full support of the school, the tuck shop was closed to give undivided attention to the young entrepreneurs. These learners served over 280 learners and staff with offerings ranging from braai meat, pap, burgers, car washes, sweets, juice, ice cream, marshmallows and creative painting activities.
“On the day the learners were formally assessed on their business performance, which included planning, teamwork, customer service, and financial management, with marks contributing directly to their term three report cards,” said Shabalala.
This practical assessment replaces the traditional written exam, offering a meaningful, hands-on experience that may ignite future job creation and entrepreneurial success.
