Mpumalanga’s top radio station bags sought-after national award
Ligwalagwala FM's listeners made sure to put the radio station on the map once again by showing their loyalty.
One of the Mbombela’s hottest radio broadcasters, Ligwalagwala FM, has proven to be a powerhouse by winning the My Station – Most Loyal Votes Award at the 2025 Telkom Radio Awards.
This is the second time the station has claimed this award, reinforcing its influence and deep-rooted connection with its listeners.
This award was one of the most fiercely contested of the event, with major national broadcasters such as Ukhozi FM, RSG, Umhlobo Wenene FM, and Hot 1027 in the running. The ceremony took place in Johannesburg on December 6 and brought together the country’s leading radio professionals, industry stakeholders and broadcasters.
Ligwalagwala FM was also nominated in five other categories – the Afternoon Drive Show, the community project for Kusile Mzansi Breakfast, the promotional stunt/event for closing off Transport Month (October), Fortune Ntekati for best Afternoon Drive presenter, and Collen Vusi Mabaso for best content producer.

The station’s combo business manager, Nkosinathi Ntuli, said securing this award is a testament to the unwavering loyalty and dedication of Ligwalagwala FM’s audience.
He added that, with the launch of SABC Plus, the platform has extended its reach beyond Mpumalanga, making it increasingly easy for listeners across South Africa and abroad to tune in through digital platforms. This expansion has strengthened connection and elevated the award-winning outlet’s position within the national radio landscape.
“In celebration of this milestone, Ligwalagwala FM will embark on a listener appreciation tour, offering fans an opportunity to interact with their favourite on-air personalities and participate in special activations designed to thank the audience that powers the station’s success,” Ntuli said.
