Temporary closure of road between Karino and Tekwane

The road is closed due to heavy rains that caused the collapse of an old corrugated metal culvert.

The D2296 between Karino and Tekwane South, which links to Kanyamazane, has been temporarily closed following the collapse of an old corrugated metal culvert today, January 12. The damage has rendered the road unsafe for all traffic.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) has urged the public to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues across the region.

Meanwhile, CoM spokesperson Joseph Ngala advised residents, particularly those living in flood-line areas, to remain on high alert.

“If the rain persists, residents must evacuate to higher ground. Sandbags can also be used to create barrier walls at entrances or in areas where water is flowing towards properties,” said Ngala.
