University of Mpumalanga first-year students registration underway

The registration process, which started on January 26 and ends today (Friday, January 30), comes with a reminder from UMP that prospective students must not pay any person or entity for admission.

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has successfully completed the process of releasing application outcomes to first-year students. In line with the Department of Higher Education and Training’s (DHET) approved enrolment plan, UMP has 3 969 vacancies for the undergraduate first-year intake.

UMP completed the process after the official release of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on Tuesday, January 13. The university has received more than 124 000 applications for the 2026 academic year.

“Based on our enrolment targets, we will increase our student enrolment from 11 885 in 2025 to 13 077 in 2026. This is significant for our growth trajectory and academic excellence as we pursue our strategic objectives, guided by our Vision 2030,” said UMP vice-chancellor Prof Thenjiwe Meyiwa.

“We would like to urge all students who have received admission offers to register online without delay, as we look forward to warmly welcoming them to our university,” she added.

On-campus registration for first-year students who have been admitted started on Monday, January 26 and will conclude on Friday, January 30. UMP encourages applicants to check the outcomes of their application on the student portal.

The institution’s spokesperson, Tlangelani Ubisi, said UMP is urging prospective students not to pay any person or entity money to obtain admission, as the university has a zero-tolerance policy for such actions. “You can report any unethical conduct through our whistleblowing hotline by sending an email ump@thehotline.co.za or visiting www.thehotline.co.za/report,” said Ubisi.
