Mkhwanazi said these vehicles will also be used to intensify operations and increase SAPS visibility on highways, at shopping malls, along transportation hubs and other hotspots during peak holidays to ensure the safety of residents.

He vowed that the vehicles will not be misused, as they are instruments of crime prevention, investigation and essential service delivery.

“We do not want to hear of SAPS vehicles being handed over today only to be involved in accidents in which one would find such cars to be damaged beyond repair. This is not merely negligence, it is a failure of duty that we cannot tolerate. It is our responsibility to maintain and manage these resources effectively, ensuring their readiness to assist the community at all times,” he said.
