Acornhoek man gets 30-year sentence for murder, assault and kidnapping
A man who stabbed his ex-wife’s companion in Acornhoek in 2024 has been convicted and sentenced to 30 years.
Emmanuel Tivane (48) received a 30-year term of imprisonment in the Mhala Regional Court on Monday, April 20.
According to the Mpumalanga police, Tivane allegedly found his ex-wife with a male companion at a residence in Acornhoek, where he forcefully gained entry by throwing a brick at the door in 2024, December 23.

Tivane had two knives and stabbed the man. The victim was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The offender was arrested on the same day and charged with murder.
Tivane was convicted of three charges and sentenced to 15 years for murder, 10 years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and five years for kidnapping. The court ordered that the sentences for the murder and kidnapping run concurrently. The convict was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The acting Mpumalanga police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the sentence and commended the investigating officer and the prosecution for their dedication in the case.
