Crocodile river crash: Police search for third victim

The family of the third victim alerted police at the scene of the crash that he had been in the vehicle.

Following a crash that claimed the lives of a 20-year-old man, identified as Vigo Godfrey, and a woman believed to be between 18 and 23 years old, police have confirmed that they are searching for a third man in his 20s. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the woman’s identity has not yet been confirmed and will need to be verified by her next of kin.

Ndubane added that the victims were students who had attended a rugby match. Preliminary cellphone records indicate that they travelled from a local restaurant before plunging into the Crocodile River on June 7.

“We will continue the search today, using drones to assist in locating the third victim,” said Captain Pottie Potgieter of the Ehlanzeni Diving Unit.

Search and rescue teams carry a body.

According to police, the family of the third victim arrived at the scene yesterday and informed officers that their son had reportedly been travelling in the vehicle. They became concerned when he failed to return home and were unable to reach him on his cellphone.
