AmaNdebele nation in mourning as King Makhosonke II passes away
President Cyril Ramaphosa mourns the passing of King Makhosonke II, who died at the age of 65 after serving 40 years on the throne.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed deep sadness following the passing of His Majesty King Makhosonke II, the king of the amaNdebele nation.
King Makhosonke II passed away on Tuesday at the age of 65, after serving as the traditional leader of the amaNdebele akwaManala for four decades.

In a statement, Ramaphosa extended his condolences to the royal household, Her Majesty Queen Sekhothali, the amaNdebele nation, and the Basotho people, acknowledging the Queen’s heritage.

The President described the late king as a pillar of national unity and a champion of development, particularly in the areas of education and land restitution. He said the nation would, in due course, pay tribute to the king’s contribution to South Africa.

“For now, we mourn his passing and stand alongside the amaNdebele nation in this painful hour,” Ramaphosa said.
The Presidency conveyed its deepest condolences to the royal household and all those affected by King Makhosonke II’s passing.
