Mpumalanga crime stats: Nsikazi precincts among top-30 SA robbery hotspots

The acting Mpumalanga police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, urged communities to report criminal activity and co-operate with police during the provincial crime statistics media briefing.

SAPS provincial crime statistics for the fourth quarter (January to March 2026) show a rising trend in residential robberies across several police precincts in the Nsikazi region.

KaBokweni, Pienaar and Masoyi police stations continue to feature among South Africa’s top-30 stations for robbery at residential premises. Nationally, KaBokweni ranked 17th, Pienaar 18th, while Masoyi ranked 21st. Provincially, they rank first, second and third respectively.

KaBokweni recorded 30 cases compared with 31 cases during the same period in 2025. Pienaar experienced a decrease in cases, from 32 in 2025 to 28 in 2026. Masoyi, however, recorded a sharp increase, rising from 13 cases to 27, a jump of 14, making it one of the most concerning increases recorded in the province.

Addressing stakeholders during the presentation of the statistics at the Provincial Police Headquarters on Monday, June 8, the MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, acknowledged the challenges facing communities affected by violent and property-related crimes.

He emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies, community structures, and residents to combat crime effectively.
