Four suspects appeared in court following drug busts in Mkhondo
A female suspect appeared before the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court following an arrest that was made during an operation
A 47-year-old suspect, Phelisiwe Siphiwe Zwane appeared before the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court following her arrest for alleged dealing of dagga. The suspect remains in custody and the case has been postponed to July 1 for further investigations.
On Monday, June 22 the police were conducting a boarder control when they stopped a Mercedes-Benz travelling from Eswatini to South Africa. During the search they discovered 12 rolls of dagga weighing approximately 29.90kg estimated at around R180 000. The suspect was arrested on charges of dealing in dagga and the vehicle was confiscated for further investigation.

In a separate matter, three suspects, Vezi Robert Maba (50), Mpendulo Shabalala (30) and Nkosinathi Khumalo (39), appeared before the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on June 22 following an arrest that happen during a joint operation conducted by members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and Mahamba police. The matter was postponed to July 8.
The suspects were arrested on June 20 when SANDF members and SAPS were conducting routine patrols along the N2 road. The police stopped and searched a white Volkswagen sedan and they discovered nine parcels of dagga wrapped in brown adhesive tape.

The dagga weighed approximately 16.25kg, with an estimated street value exceeding R100 000. The suspects were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga, and the vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.
