The City of Mbombela commemorated World Environment Day to create awareness and inspire climate action among the youth

The City of Mbombela commemorated World Environment Day at Vulamasango Primary School on Saturday June 27 under the theme, “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future”, with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and inspiring climate action among young people.

The municipality partnered with the Ehlanzeni District Municipality, the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency, the Department of Water and Sanitation, and other stakeholders to deliver an educational and engaging programme for learners.

As part of the celebrations, the City donated bags of compost to support the school’s vegetable garden, which contributes to its nutrition programme while giving learners practical knowledge of sustainable agriculture.

Learners also took part in interactive presentations focusing on biodiversity conservation, environmental stewardship, waste management, recycling, and waste sorting. The initiative concluded with a tree-planting activity to highlight the importance of trees in protecting the environment and creating greener communities.
