Community volunteer Elvis Ubisi received a grocery hamper on Thursday after stepping in to repair damaged roads in Hluvukani.

Super B management visited Ubisi and presented him with the hamper in recognition of his commitment to improving road safety for motorists and visitors using the route.

Ubisi has earned widespread praise after taking it upon himself to repair numerous potholes that have long posed a danger to motorists travelling between Hluvukani and the Manyeleti Nature Reserve. Using basic tools and materials, he has been filling the holes to make the road safer while waiting for permanent repairs from the relevant authorities.

His actions have attracted admiration from residents, tourists and road users, many of whom have commended him for stepping in where public infrastructure has deteriorated.

Management inspired by dedication

According to Eulender Nanni of Super B, the company’s manager read a recent article highlighting Ubisi’s dedication to filling potholes along the busy road.

“After reading the piece about Elvis, our manager felt we should show our appreciation,” said Nanni. “We wanted to encourage him to continue making a positive difference.”

She added that although the donation may seem like a simple gesture, it carried a meaningful message of gratitude and recognition for a man whose selfless efforts have not gone unnoticed.

“The visit also served as a reminder that acts of kindness and community service deserve to be celebrated,” Nanni said. “Super B hopes the gesture will motivate Ubisi to continue the valuable work he has been doing for the benefit of everyone who uses the road.”

Relief for local family

Ubisi, who is currently unemployed, said he was grateful for the donation, as it would help provide food for his family over the next few months.

“I was fixing the potholes to help motorists in my area, not for fame. I am happy to see that people are recognising my efforts,” he added. “I would like to thank Super B for what they have done for me. It means a lot.”

Ubisi committed to continuing the pothole repairs until the road is fully restored by authorities.
