What started with a young boy singing during school assemblies in Amsterdam has developed into an award-winning gospel career for Godgiven Buthelezi.

The Mpumalanga-born recording artist, songwriter and producer reached one of the biggest milestones of his career after he won the Ingoma 13 Song of the Year award for his breakthrough song, ‘Noma Ngina Zero’.

The awards were hosted at Glory House in Midrand on August 29.

The song reflects themes of faith, hope, perseverance and determination, particularly the idea of continuing to believe and move forward even when circumstances appear unfavourable.

For him, this achievement represents much more than an award.

It marks another chapter in a musical journey that has been shaped by music, friendship, faith, transformation and perseverance.

Public support drives award victory

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, Buthelezi said he was delighted to receive the award, adding that local radio stations and supporters backed his music.

Roots in school performances

Buthelezi is the founder of Godgiven Voices, an award-winning music group currently consisting of him, Philani Cele and Qiniso Gumede.

His earliest experiences as a performer can be traced to Ithole Primary School. As he grew older, music continued to be part of his life, and while at Nganana Secondary School, he performed at school functions.
