STEENBOK – There is a new sprinter in town and she seems to be making a name for herself. Eugene Sibiya (15) has been crowned the winner in the cross-country marathon for two consecutive years.

The latest was when she took part in the competitions held in White River on Saturday. “I have been running since primary school and I can tell you it takes hard work and dedication.

”Having represented her primary school, Bhambatha, and now representing Steenbok Secondary School, the athlete says she has always looked to athletes like Caster Semenya and Oscar Pistorius for inspiration.

“I have already won seven medals, gold and bronze, and three trophies. I look at Caster and Oscar and see how far they have gone, and know that I am defi nitely heading there as well. I will work hard to achieve that goal,” she added.

The 15-year-old says she plans to be the fi rst athlete from the province to get international recognition.
