MBOMBELA – The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is in town to check on progress made since the last visit and the Speaker, Ms Thandi Shongwe is elated about their presence.

Welcoming the delegation, Shongwe said that she was confident that they will be able to continue the good work that will make a positive impact in the lives of the people of Mpumalanga.

The Speaker stated that these visit are not just talk-shows but follow up is made and they yield good results.

“Since the last visit, we have been able to register the Moloto Road as a project and work will commence soon. We also sorted out the problem of the farm dwellers children who were unable to use the school learners transport because they resided in Mpumalanga but went to school in Gauteng” said Shongwe.

This is the first gathering after the elections and the council hopes that through greater inter-departmental interaction, they can speed up service delivery to people thus fulfilling their mandate for this year which is; ‘Together making service delivery work for our people.’

The council will be in the province for the whole week and will conduct inspections on various projects including monitoring the progress on the construction of the R538 and the Phola Still Water Tanks.

“We are going to be working together with the NCOP and provide them with relevant information while verifying that these projects exist and are not only on paper” added Shongwe.
