TONGA – The 49-year-old school principal of Phiva who was arrested last week for murder, has appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court for the shooting a 29-year-old man.

According to the police, the two got into a heated argument after the deceased had accused the suspect of being the cause of his younger brother’s failure in school.

The principal in question appeared on January 14 and was granted bail of R1 000. He is due back in court on March 16.

The police have appealed to the community to allow the law to take its course in this matter.

“We are urging the community to keep calm and handle the issue in a professional manner. Let us allow the law to take its course. The case is with the police now,” said spokesperson for Tonga SAPS, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi.
