Absa compliments Mamelodi Sundowns on league triumph

Absa also heaped praise on coach Pitso Mosimane, who has won the Absa Premiership for the second time in his career.

MBOMBELA- Absa, sponsors of the Absa Premiership, has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns after the Chloorkop-based club clinched the 2015/16 league title following their victory over the University of Pretoria last night.

Mamelodi Sundowns secured South Africa’s most prestigious football title for the second time in three years and a record seven times in total, an achievement that entrenches them as one of the most formidable teams in the country. The Brazilians will officially be crowned this season’s Absa Premiership champions on 21 May when they host Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Bobby Malabie, Group Executive for Marketing and Corporate Relations: Barclays Africa, complimented Mamelodi Sundowns on their title-winning season. “On behalf of Absa, I hereby extend our congratulations to the club on its outstanding performances during the 2015/16 Absa Premiership campaign and applaud the players, coach, management and supporters for contributing to the team’s success.”

“Mamelodi Sundowns have consistently demonstrated that winning football can also be stylish and attractive. They successfully combined their flair with passion, commitment and determined focus in relentlessly pushing for the trophy they have already lifted on six occasions. Their memorable 18-match unbeaten run in the middle of the season when they scored some incredible goals even had opposition fans applauding their brilliance,” added Malabie.

Absa also heaped praise on coach Pitso Mosimane, who has won the Absa Premiership for the second time in his career. “We congratulate Pitso for his leadership in guiding the team through the season’s highs and lows and helping them achieve their ambitions on and off the field,” said Malabie.

He added: “As sponsors of the Absa Premiership, it is extremely rewarding to be able to continue leveraging our involvement in South African football and actively engage with the communities in which we conduct our business, while also connecting fans with their footballing heroes.”

This season, for instance, Absa implemented a once-in-a-lifetime Absa Premiership Transactional Winners Experience, which saw one customer, Zukiswa Mboya, from Port Elizabeth win a prize to watch Absa Premiership matches around the country in the company of her family and friends. This competition, together with other brand activations, provided Absa customers with an opportunity to actively engage with the Absa brand, their favourite clubs and football heroes, including legends such as Lucas Radebe, Aaron Mokoena, Edward Motale, Stanton Fredericks, Cyril Nzama, Brent Carelse, Jabu Mahlangu, Steve Lekoelea and Jabulani Mendu.

Cyril Nzama, who has previously won two Absa Premiership titles, also commended Mamelodi Sundowns on being crowned Absa Premiership champions. “I’d like to congratulate Mamelodi Sundowns and the entire technical team and players led by Pitso Mosimane, on winning their 7th league title. This has been a fantastic season for the club, where they’ve shown a lot of determination and the mental strength to withstand the pressure of leading the standings for so such a long period until the end of the campaign. I was hugely impressed by the exhilarating displays we witnessed from them this season,” he said.
