Soccer fans waiting for games to resume

Equally, many will also be eyeing how the PSL finishes with Kaizer Chiefs placed at the summit with Mamelodi Sundowns hard on their tails.

It will also be interesting to see who gets the chop and who gets promoted to the elite league.

In other countries around the globe, football has restarted and all eyes are now on South Africa as both the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the South African Football Association (Safa) are yet to announce dates for the remaining fixtures to be completed.

“It has been too long since we have seen our soccer teams in action. I personally cannot wait for football to resume. The infighting between Safa and the PSL is really killing us with boredom. The government wants us to stay at home, but how are we really going to stay indoors if there is no form of entertainment?” said Manyovu Mnisi, a colourful local soccer fanatic.

Mnisi is the brains behind the Mbombela Supporters Club, which became famous during the 2010 Soccer World Cup and the 2013 African Cup of Nations games. These tournaments staged games at the Mbombela Stadium.

He said football keeps him and many other soccer fanatics occupied and entertained.
“We want to be responsible citizens and stay at home as per the government’s request, but bring back soccer games so we can have something to look forward to when we are behind closed doors.
“Life without soccer action is boring and empty,” he said.

Just like many other spectators, Mnisi said he was surprised by the PSL’s decision to move all the remaining games to Gauteng, as it is currently the epicentre of the virus.
“Well, I am just happy that the wait is almost over,” he concluded.
