Scammers targeting unsuspecting victims

According to one of the victims, the men ask for transport for their minerals, either chrome or platinum, in a container.

BURGERSFORT – The Tubatse SAPS have offered a reward for information on a conman who is scamming locals in the area. The man, who is believed to be in his mid-40s, is targeting locals in Burgersfort and Praktiseer. “He has scammed several people asking them for cash. In most cases he tells his victims that his daughter is stranded at a university in Botswana and he needs transport money for her.

He uses different names and targets people who are known to him, as well as strangers,” said Col Mahlathini Ngele of Tubatse SAPS. Ngele said they are offering a R20 000 reward for anyone who can assist with the arrest of the suspect.

“We warn our people against sending people money. There are so many scammers during the festive season. Stop lending money to strangers. Most of them are criminals,” added Ngele.

Anyone with information on the suspect are advised to contact Ngele on 082-573-3645.
