TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs to play ‘final’ for eighth place

If The Rockets draw or win they will secure a place in the MTN8

TS Galaxy failed to secure the eighth DStv Premiership log position after playing to a 0-0 draw against Stellenbosch United at Danie Craven Stadium last night.

The team that will finish eighth will be decided on the last day of league matches on Saturday.

TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch started cautiously last night and The Rockets’ first shot at goal came in the 31st minute, but Lee Langeveldt stopped Tshegofasto Nyama’s curling shot.

This seemed to fire The Rockets and they attacked with vigour for the rest of the first stanza, but could not create goal-scoring chances against Stellenbosch’s tight defence.

Gerland Modisane had a chance off a corner in the 47th minute, but failed to find the target. Lindokuhle Mbatha put one over the cross bar on 90 minutes.

Each team took home one point, but TS Galaxy have left themselves a tough mission against a wounded and dangerous Amakhosi on the final match day.

The Rockets remain in eighth place on 36 log points, but can be overtaken by Kaizer Chiefs (ninth, 33 points) and/or Baroka FC (10th, 33 log points).

TS Galaxy will host Kaizer Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. A draw or a win will see them finish eighth and qualify for the MTN 8 next season.

If Chiefs win they will claim eighth spot.

Baroka can mathematically move to eighth, but they will need a big win, by at least six goals or more, against Swallows away, and for Kaizer Chiefs to beat TS Galaxy.
