Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency appoints acting CEO

The acting CEO has served as a Chief Financial Officer for the tourism agency since October 2020 and will serve in his new role for six months.

The  Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) board announced the appointment of its acting CEO, Mduduzi Vilakazi, with effect from April 1.

The agency made the announcement on Tuesday April 5. He is taking over from Johannes Nobunga, who served the entity with diligence for a period of five years until his term came to an end in March.

The agency bade farewell to Nobunga on Thursday March 31 at its offices. Vilakazi is no stranger to the MTPA, as he had served as a chief financial officer since October 2020.

“On behalf of the board, we are excited to appoint Vilakazi to serve as the acting CEO, for a period of six months. We are confident that he will continue to ensure stability within the entity and further take it to greater heights with the support of the executive management and the entire staff,” said Victor Mashego, the chairperson of the MTPA board.

“Vilakazi brings with him a wealth of experience through the number of years he had served in the public sector. He will continue to ensure that he serves the people of Mpumalanga and strive to ensure that both the tourism and conservation sectors continue to work together to position Mpumalanga as a destination of choice.

“As the board, our mandate to the acting CEO is to ensure that he strives towards achieving a clean audit and further advance the transformation agenda with speed and agility.” Mashego said they would like to congratulate Vilakazi in his new position and wish him well in his journey to take the MTPA to greater heights.
