Grandson appears in Nelspruit Court for grandmother’s murder

Kilmister was murdered in her house in the Cromdale area in the early hours of Monday February 28.

JJ Peters (25) appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court this morning as the accused in the murder of his grandmother, Susanna Kilmister (68).

Peters also appeared briefly in court on Tuesday, when a confession he had made to a senior police official was confirmed.

Kilmister was murdered in the early hours of Monday. She was apparently strangled, allegedly by Peters, who had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the Cromdale area about six kilometres outside the city on the R40.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said “It is alleged that on February 28, the accused and the victim had a heated argument, which led to the accused assaulting the victim until she died.”

The matter was remanded to March 10 for a formal bail application.
