Dogs attack five people in separate incidents in George

“It took our inspectors a total of five hours to locate and catch the dogs with the assistance of the owner,” said GRSPCA senior inspector, Salomé Bruyns.

Three dogs that were wreaking havoc in George on Monday morning have been caught and taken to the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA).

This follows an urgent appeal by the GRSPCA yesterday morning after the dogs, two pit bull terriers and a pit bull terrier cross, attacked at least five people in separate incidents in various areas in George since approximately 04:30 this morning.

The GRSPCA was called out to the first incident near Steinhoff Business Park when they received a call of another attack in the vicinity of Lancewood in the Tamsui industrial area. After that followed an attack on a security guard at Stanmar Motors and another on two people on the N2.

According to unconfirmed information, the security guard who was on duty sustained severe injuries. He is still in hospital. One of the other victims, well-known George athlete Lloyd Bosman, was on his morning run when the dogs attacked him near the N2. He sustained serious injuries to his left hand and thigh. He has been discharged from hospital.

It is believed that the dogs broke out of the yard where they were kept at a home in Rosedale.

“It took our inspectors a total of five hours to locate and catch the dogs with the assistance of the owner,” said GRSPCA senior inspector, Salomé Bruyns.

“We eventually found them in the vicinity of Groeneweide Park near the highway, where we could catch them and take them to our premises. A big thank you to all everyone who assisted, especially Anton Meyer who went out of his way and risked his own life searching for the dogs.”

GRSPCA will be releasing a detailed media statement soon. George Herald has made contact with the owner, who is still in shock about the events.
