Five kidnap and hijacking suspects arrested in Johannesburg South

The men were searched and arrested when police on patrol noticed them in a car with no registration plate.

Five men aged between 25 and 30 were arrested on suspicion of hijacking and kidnapping in Mayfield Park yesterday.

Captain Lunga Dube, spokesperson for Mondeor SAPS says, “Police were on patrol when they noticed a silver-blue Hyundai i30 with no registration plate on the side of the road.”

A man was found inside the vehicle. He informed the police that he was hijacked in Eden Park. According to the victim, suspects fired shots and forced him inside their vehicle.

“The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed firearm with its serial numbers filed off, as well as ammunition were found.

The firearm was sent for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in other crimes while the suspects will be profiled to see if they are linked to other cases.

Cases of hijacking, kidnapping and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition are investigated by officials.

The suspects will appear in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court soon.
