Man arrested for attempting to exchange fake Euro banknotes in Pretoria
The shop assistant realised what was going on and alerted police while stalling the transaction.
A man who tried to exchange fake Euro banknotes worth R36 000 in Silver Oaks, Pretoria was arrested after a tip off by the public.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane says the man (36) was arrested at a currency exchange shop after the police were tipped off by shop staff.
“The shop attendant was very careful and realised the money was fake and notified the police,” Mbatsane says.

“The attendant then managed to delay the exchange process until the police got to the shop and the suspect was arrested.”
Mbatsane says the man had 200 Euro notes valued at R36 000, and was charged “for being in possession of suspected false banknotes” and the investigation continues.
“Crimes of false banknotes are not common in our area,” he says.
The man is expected in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this week.
