Limpopo police on the hunt for 10 cash-in-transit heist suspects

One of the suspects was accidentally shot by one of his accomplices but all of them fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in the Sekhukhune district yesterday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the CIT vehicle was travelling along the Senotlelo-Mokgwaneng road in Matlelerekeng when it was attacked by a group of 10 suspects driving a charcoal-coloured sedan and a double-cab bakkie.

“The heavily armed suspects began to shoot at the van, forced the security officials out, and robbed them of three firearms,” reads the statement.

He explains the men then placed explosives on the van and took an undisclosed amount of money.

“During the incident, one of the suspects was accidentally shot by his accomplice and was assisted by the rest of the suspects, and they all fled the scene. No security officers were injured,” he adds.

“A task team has already been activated to investigate the incident in order to bring the suspects to book.”

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe says: “This team must be relentless in tracking down these dangerous criminals. The community must also assist us with valuable information to help in their speedy arrest.”

Members of the public are urged to come forward with any information by calling investigating officer Colonel Mahlathini Ngele on 082 573 3645, the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station. Alternatively, send information via the MySAPSApp.
